CNC MACHINE
This was the first CNC machine I had ever purchased/owned. I wanted something relatively small in size, but didn't want it to be too fragile. After looking through many different models offered from sellers all over the world, I decided to go with the OMIO CNC X3-300 CNC.
The X3-300 comes from China and it cost me about $900. There are sellers on eBay and various other sites that will offer a similar product for cheaper. However, I chose to pay more since OMIO CNC has a reputation for great customer service. This ended up being a very important factor as I later discovered that a component in the machine needed to be replaced and they offered to do so without any charge.
The specs of the machine are pretty straight forward. The main cutting tool is a 300 W DC spindle that operates on 12 V. It's powerful enough to cut through most thin woods and plastics, but won't make it through metal too easily. I've spent most of my time cutting acrylic so I haven't had any issues with regards to lack of power.
The pictures below show a few shots of what the machine looked like when it arrived. It came 95% preassembled with only a few things that required attention. It comes with a fairly large control box which houses all of the electronics that drive the spindle as well as the 3 stepper motors.

The video below shows one of the cuts I made on the X3-300. It was a quadcopter frame cut from 3mm acrylic that was designed by a friend of mine, Adam Polak. The video is a time lapse of the ~1 hour to took to make the cut. The machine was setup on the living room floor and I was sitting near by with a shop vac to keep the cutting area clean.
